The risk management and safety of all participants in academic activities is of paramount importance to the university. To support this, Saint Mary’s University has various safety policies and processes in place to reduce risks associated with undertaking academic activities. The following outlines some of the required measures:
a. Instructors are responsible for understanding, following, and informing students of relevant safety policies and processes, and instructors and students are required to comply with applicable safety policies and processes.
b. For courses with required on-campus activities that involve hazards beyond those typically present in classrooms, such as laboratory activities, instructors must provide students with a written description of the activities planned and associated hazards during the first two weeks of classes.
c. For courses with occasional or one-time off-campus activities, instructors must receive approval from the appropriate Dean or designate for planned activities prior to the start of term and provide students with a written description of the activities planned and associated hazards during the first two weeks of classes.
d. For courses largely or wholly based off-campus (i.e. field courses), instructors must complete the required processes prior to courses being made available for registration, and course safety information must be made available to students in writing at the time of course registration.
